WALA: Place Value

Together as a class, the Toucan 2's wrote a story about the Place Value Houses. By knowing this story we are hoping to develop our Plave Value knowledge.  Please let us know if you find this story helpful.

Place Value Road

Once upon a time there was a builder called Trevor Trend-Setter who decided he would like to build a house down lonely Place Value Road.  He decided to build his house down the far end of the street.  There were three bedrooms in his newly built house, the Ones bedroom, the Tens bedroom and the Hundreds bedroom.  Trevor Trend-Setter decided to call his house the “Trend-Setter” house.

The next day, another builder called Theo Thousands came along to Place Value Road.  He decided that he quite liked the design of the Trend-Setter house so he began to build his house exactly the same as the Trend- Setter house, right next door.  Theo Thousand’s house had the same amount of bedrooms as the Trend-Setter house, three.  These bedrooms were also called the Ones bedroom, the Tens bedroom and the Hundreds bedroom.  But there was one problem, Peach the Post Woman did not know which house the mail belonged too, so Theo Thousands called his house the “Thousands house”.

The following day, a builder named Mario Millions came along and thought, “Yeah! What cool fashionable houses down this Road.  I want to build one for myself.”  So, Mario Millions started to build himself his own house with three bedrooms.  And guess what?  They too were called the Ones bedroom, the Tens bedroom and the Hundreds bedroom.  Mario Millions called his house the “Millions house” to help out the  Peach the very patient Post Woman.

Not long after the “Millions house” was built, a pair of cousins called Bill Billions and Trey Trillions visited Place Value Road.  They soon decided to each build themselves the same type of house as the “Trend-Setter” house, right next door to one another down Place Value Road.

Each day, more busy builders visit Place Value Road and are inspired by the “Trend-Setter” house down the far end of the Road.  They too all decide to build their own houses just like the “Trend-Setter” house.  Place Value Road is no longer known as a lonely Road anymore.
